Bama’s New Basketball Coach

Finally.
“Supercoach” – aka Mark Gottfried – is officially and totally gone. Always and forever. (que Kip singing at the end of Napoleon Dynamite)
These words brought feelings of utter and total jubilation to my soul “University of Alabama head men’s basketball coach Mark Gottfried has resigned effective immediately, UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore announced today.” (sometime in January when the team was performing at far less than potential – imagine that – and one of the best players had just resigned from playing)
And these words restored my sanity in a world gone bad thanks in whole to Supercoach, “Anthony Grant was formally introduced as the University of Alabama head men’s basketball coach in a press conference Sunday evening in the Naylor Stone Media Room.”
All things are made new again. Awesome.
Enter a new era in University of Alabama athletics, enter Anthony Grant.

University of Alabama Men's Basketball Coach
This guy is the real deal. THANK YOU GOD!!!
This guy is a chump and thank God he’s gone!
Chump.
Yes, that is FORMER head men’s basketball coach Mark Gottfried – the picture was taken shortly after a paddling he got from a guy that coaches a a middle school for blind girls team who schooled him in a game of H.O.R.S.E. – pansy. I’d go into the stats that reasoned his firing like his 25% winning percentage in the SEC, but the facts that he was over-paid, a smug jerk with Holier Than Thou syndrome, and couldn’t win road games to save his life I think were the nails in the professional coaching coffin. Chump. Pansy. Gone.
(and I’m saving the personal attacks for someone else – you know what I mean – bow chic a wow wow + nursing student)
Enough history, let’s move on. Scratch that, let’s review some history as it’s sure to repeat itself. Anthony Grant lost 11 games and won 172 while winning 3 state titles plus a handful of USA Today rankings while coaching a high school in Ohio. Can we say “dominate?” Can we say one-hundred and seventy-two? Jeepers. That’s about how many dollars Mark Gottfried’s tenure at Alabama is worth, including the group gratuity. If he – COACH Grant – can have that kind of success at the high school level, chances are he’ll have that kind of success with the right team at the next level, right? Right. Enter the success he was a part of while a member of Billy Donavan’s staff at The University of Florida. You know, NCAA TournamentS, National ChampionshipS, winning recordS, etc etc. He’s got “it” by all accounts as well in terms of being a basketball coach, a leader, and a man. He’s widely regarded as a huge reason that Billy Donovan has had such success at Florida (not to take anything away from Coach Donovan, it’s just Grant can recruit and coach like whoa). And he’s ours now. Thanks.
He is exactly what The University of Alabama needed. I’m not one to buy into the “race” card very often, but I was thrilled to death that Alabama, with a history that’s burdened by a Stand in the Schoolhouse Doors, can put a giant “no more” sticker in place. Yes, he’s way, way, way, way, way more than qualified no matter his racial heritage. He’s ultra smart, a fantastic recruiter, he’s calculated, he’s knowledgable, well-spoken, and sharp dressed. In my opinion, that all adds up to success and that is exactly what the Bama nation expects in every aspect of academics and athletics and I’m confident we will see just that and more from Anthony Grant.
Again I say, thank God Anthony Grant is here!
